[Short Story - Work]
"This goes here... and this goes... what was Lucius even doing with this idea? They really need to stop working on this when half-asleep."
Eidos let out a sigh as he typed on the holographic screen, other screens displaying metallic parts that looked foreign in nature, almost like the angelic monsters of the card game they happened to play. A little something that was scanned while exploring the abandoned laboratory from days and years past, but it let them both have something to work with.
Lucius had been busy recently, in-between adjusting to living with Professor Wakahisa in the meantime and making some things for Landrobe in preparation for his dimension trip, so they hadn't had the chance to work on their main project.
Eidos, of course, had no such distractions present other than annoyance. So when Lucius slept, Eidos could do his work.
But he admitted he felt... constrained. Lucius clearly didn't want to be involved in the dimensional travel. But Eidos did. If he could finish this thing in time, he could have a huge impact irregardless of Lucius' weaker spine.
But... it was looking more and more like that wasn't going to happen in time. The best he could do is get some parts to materialize without issue-- maybe have working joints too, but it took time and energy to build what was essentially a robot suit.
"Ugh... things were way easier when I was working on the VR space instead..." Eidos subconsciously almost opened the application for it-- a VR application they had both programmed that would allow them access to it, but he stopped himself. It wouldn't work just yet. Not until they did the correct transfer of the future data into the current "Duel Links" system. It was really the one thing they both regretted with abandoning their future, that they had to wait until the technology at least caught up enough to re-establish themselves in the virtual world.
That place was basically their second home. Eidos could feel the ache getting worse over time with not going back to there, but they had to wait to avoid upsetting too much. Eidos hated waiting, but it'd be no fun if everything broke as soon as they got on. Things have to take time to be broken. Adapted.
Plus it'd just suck if KaibaCorp's systems detected them getting on when they shouldn't be able to, yet, and delete them. That'd just be plain annoying.
But they knew that KaibaCorp also clearly has a hand in assisting on this nonsense with other dimensions. Their focus was going to be on that, not Duel Links. So it felt like... it was stuck, just waiting to be used again.
So Eidos focused on the robotic suit. A piece goes here. A part goes there. But eventually he grew tired of staring at how all of the pieces are coded together, as he opened up a different program that he was working on himself. A "door".
With the talk of dimensional travel, of course, he had to try himself. If the technology exists, of course it's possible, though he was aiming for something a little more... stable and practical than-- what was it-- cards? Sure, cards would work. But they were very simple for this, and probably only had a limited number of destinations.
A doorway, however, could likely go anywhere that was an entrance. Which is what he needed to do. But to really get this to work, he may need to get a bit of assistance... Ugh, but the best one for that was Wakahisa, and he already didn't like staying here anyway, even if Lucius was fine with it...
Well, for now, he could get the concept down. Maybe if he could, he could get Landrobe or Garum to pass him along one of those cards to scan before they had to go.
... Maybe.
